In approximately 90 minutes, three engaging modules allow nurses to meet the following objectives:
Module 1: Maternal Positions & Movement
- Apply evidence-based labor positions and movement techniques to support labor progress and maternal comfort.
- Explain how positioning can influence cervical dilation, fetal descent, and the birth experience.
- Adapt positioning strategies based on clinical circumstances, mobility limitations, and patient preferences.
Module 2: Comfort Measures
- Apply mental, mindfulness, and physical comfort techniques to help patients cope with labor pain.
- Explain how comfort measures can reduce stress, enhance coping, and contribute to a positive birth experience.
- Engage partners, doulas, and other support people in effective labor support strategies.
Module 3: Patient Advocacy, Autonomy, & Communication
- Support patient autonomy through shared decision-making.
- Use empathetic communication to promote informed consent and respect individual birth preferences.
- Integrate culturally sensitive and trauma-informed principles into labor care.
- Collaborate effectively with doulas, families, and the interdisciplinary care team.
