Does breastfeeding initiation explain disparities in sudden infant deaths?

In 1990 130.27/100,000 babies died of SIDS.  In 2020, that number dropped to 38.4/100,000.  But since 2013 the number has remained in the high 30s.  (See more here)

Each year recently about 3,400 babies have died suddenly and unexpectedly in the United States. An assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, Melissa Bartick, shared some possibilities related to breastfeeding practices.  She notes that not breastfeeding may contribute to an increase in SIDs/SUIDs.  Comparing rates of breastfeeding and rates of sudden infant death gives some clues to this difficult infant loss.
