I would also say that not only should the healthcare provider be clear but they should also be thoughtful in the time of grief. It is good to see this type of study that will inform for clarity take the patient perspective into account for word choice.

I agree with you Debbie.  We have to mindful of the words we choose when talking with patients.  I think it would be beneficial to have staff training sessions to talk about communication with patients during grief.  In addition, ask staff about times they've felt uncomfortable in communicating with patients; how can we help each other?
