Health equity includes addressing maternal mortality

Because maternal mortality in the US shows that 40% of women who die during or after pregnancy are black women, Volgman of the Women in Cardiology panels of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology writes. "Health equity is a human mission that needs to be granted the highest priority by the health care community and policymakers to enhance the lives of all men and women," Volgman writes, and she says clinicians can advocate for Congress to pass the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act, which includes nine bills aimed at improving maternal care.
