Fathers Matter:
Relationship-Focused Parenting for New Fathers
A Panel Presentation Featuring Kathryn Black, PhD,
and Dr. Trevor Graham

What about Dads?

While mom and baby are basking in everyone’s attention, dads are often overlooked during the postpartum experience. But, Dad’s involvement—and more than just changing diapers—is essential during these early weeks and beyond.

This webinar addresses the importance of involving fathers in both the postpartum period and all through a child’s life. This involvement enhances the well-being of the child and acts as a powerful contributor to the strength of the family. Attendees will learn how successful fathers interact with their children and what children need from their fathers. By teaching dads ways to connect with their newborn and be an effective parent to their growing child, this webinar provides professionals with proven techniques that help fathers succeed!

Participants will learn:

  • The basics of secure attachment and why it’s important to children and families, including the importance a secure parental bond
  • How to talk to fathers about self-regulation and managing emotional overwhelm when caring for an infant
  • How to help fathers interact skillfully and empathically with their infants, including how to recognize what a child needs in the moment
  • The importance of an attachment concept called “rupture and repair” and how that applies to caring for an infant
