Currently she works at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma WA, an affiliate of Franciscan Health System which owns 5 hospital facilities in Puget Sound. A former regional family educator for the system, Michelle now works as a Lactation Consultant where she performs lactation evaluation, assessment, and referrals, provides breastfeeding support to inpatient mothers and newborns, and serves a level II Special Care Nursery. Over her 17 years of teaching for Bates Technical College, Michelle taught childbirth classes to the public and provided career training to future perinatal educators, lactation educators, and birth doulas. Michelle is the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Lead for Franciscan Health System (FHS) WIC clinics located in Lakewood, and Parkland, WA. As the Peer Counselor Lead, Michelle is involved in the administration of the FHS WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor program, and she trains and mentors WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors who serve WIC participants.
