Video Production Manager/Video Producer

Location: On-site Longmont CO

Position Summary:

The Video Production Manager, in conjunction with Video Producer responsibilities, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of InJoy’s video production department, including producing, shooting, and editing activities. 

The Video Production manager will establish that professional educational videos are executed in a collaborative production team environment with the goal of delivering every production on time, within budget, and within scope—ensuring alignment with the needs of InJoy’s customers and the strategic and business goals of InJoy. 

This role demands a mature professional who is a critical thinker and highly motivated to continuously meet and raise the quality standards in a cross-functional and high-performance team environment. Including ongoing mentoring and training of the video production team, so that the department and team members’ technical skills stay up-to-date.

As a Video Producer, this role is also responsible for producing assigned projects, producing long- and short-format educational video projects in an engaging, friendly, and artistic style. The Video Producer has extensive experience with shooting, lighting, sound, and editing, and can both lead and collaborate. This person is innovative and excited about the future of maternal/child health education media. Staying in touch with, and implementing the most current technical and production styles as it relates to our industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Director of Product Development to assist in the definition of production scope and objectives, scheduling, and budget planning.
  • Manage a team of producers, videographers, and video editors, ensuring assignments are thoroughly supervised and executed, while collaborating with stakeholders throughout the process.
  • Manage day-to-day workflow and prioritize projects against resource availability with the Director of Product Development; oversee video production project timelines.
  • Mentor team members, and proactively look for ways to grow individuals’ skills, as well as continuously look for ways to manage the video production department that create, trust, open communication, collaboration, transparency, excitement, and inspiration.
  • Produce and supervise video shoots, advise shoot directors throughout the video production process, and engage in field production/direction when necessary
  • As a Video Producer, Responsibilities Include:
    • Work closely with Content in the early stages of research and writing
    • A/V script breakdown into shotlists and schedules
    • Preproduction planning (location scouting, shoot meetings with crew, etc.)
    • Casting and directing non-professional (families, experts) and professional talent
    • Conducting personal and heartfelt interviews
    • Directing a 2-5 person production crew mostly in families’ homes, sometimes a studio
    • Directing editors throughout the post-production process, including graphics development
    • Strong story-telling skills: creating and incorporating emotional moments into programs
  • Participate in the research of new technologies as they relate to video production; maintain an awareness of current technical developments and industry trends within InJoy’s core markets.
  • Collaborate with department managers to ensure resource availability, efficient process planning, realistic budget allocation, and quality video productions—effectively communicate roles and expectations to team members for each project.
  • Collaborate with product development team members to support media assets management and file organization.
  • Be a backup and support for video editing and videography when needed. Be instrumental in supporting the post-production process, as well as the acquisition and maintenance of the production and editing equipment.
  • Present opportunities and solutions to improve production timelines and processes by reducing/eliminating critical path items, suggesting steps that can run in parallel, seeing potential pitfalls well in advance and working with the cross-functional teams to develop contingency plans in a timely manner.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously without jeopardizing deadlines or outcomes.
  • Lead production team during challenging situations and effectively communicate progress and next steps to Director of Product Development at appropriate times.
  • Continuously be learning about our customer’s businesses and needs, as well as end-user needs.
  • Execute various product development and production duties as needed.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • BA/BS in TV/Film Production, Media Production, or related field
  • 5+ year managing a video production team, successfully delivering high-quality productions
  • 15+ years solid experience producing long- and short-format, educational and/or documentary video programs (at least 200 minutes of finished video produced)
  • Excellent verbal and visual communications skills, with a particular emphasis on problem solving, concept development, visual storytelling, and information design
  • Extensive experience shooting, lighting, and editing videos
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques to create relatable videos
  • Experience research, writing, and producing maternal, child, and family health topics
  • Ability to work well in teams, ability to lead video crews on location
  • Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional attention to detail with excellent project management, team facilitation, time-management, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent and effective verbal/written/interpersonal communication and collaboration skills—able to interact maturely and competently with internal/external teams
  • Demonstrated high-level organizational skills in planning resources and establishing priorities
  • Flexibility to grow and evolve production strategy based on changing environment
  • Working knowledge of the roles of other functions in the product development process including strategy, content, design, technology, product marketing, operations, and sales
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, spreadsheet preparation, Internet research, Adobe Premier Pro and Creative Suite applications, and project management software
  • Self-motivated, organized, and resourceful with strong work ethic
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop creative solutions
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and strategies
  • Strong leadership skills interacting with coworkers and vendors
  • Ability to train others, and to learn from others
  • Knowledge of web development processes and web-based technologies, including Learning Management Systems, content management systems, and other digital learning tools
  • Basic understanding (or higher) of Spanish, a plus
  • This position requires you to function well under pressure with tight deadlines and many personality types while maintaining a great attitude. The ability to be humble, mature, and maintain a sense of humor are a must!

Physical Requirements:

Office environment, able to work on computer or phone for long periods of time. Able to work on-set/on-location during shoots; standing, walking, and sitting for long periods of time.
